Community Involvement

Welcome to the web page of the Community Involvement Board (CIB). The CIB is a partnership board made up of representatives from community and voluntary groups and aims to represent community views whilst influencing Thurrock's strategic agenda. The Local Strategic Partnership (LSP), 'Shaping Thurrock', sets the strategic agenda in Thurrock.

What are our aims?

  • To ensure that local communities and local people are given more say in the decisions that affect them
  • To shape the consultation, participation and engagement processes with local people/communities across the LSP and to monitor/assess their impact
  • To play a key role in ensuring that the community has been appropriately involved in developing the priorities and in ensuring that the vision is developed by the partnership

What are we doing to achieve our aims?

  • We are developing Principles of Engagement. Our Principles will drive the way in which organisations and groups that are part of the LSP engage with people and communities in Thurrock
  • We are developing an Engagement Strategy and Toolkit. We hope that this will help to improve the way in which people in Thurrock are engaged with
  • We are starting to develop a Community Empowerment Network. We hope that voluntary and community groups in Thurrock, however small, will be able to be involved in our work and will play their part in influencing the strategic agenda in Thurrock to ensure that it represents community needs
  • We have representatives from our Board on each of the other four LSP Partnership Boards and the LSP Board itself. This ensures that decisions that are made by those Boards take account of community views. In turn, we are able to communicate those agendas and decisions to the wider community. This is something that the Community Empowerment Network will allow us to do more effectively
