Overall Aim:
To ensure that local communities and local people are given more say in the decisions that affect them.
To shape the consultation, participation and engagement processes with local people/communities across the Local Strategic Partnership and to monitor/assess their impact.
The Community Strategy sets out the strategic vision of a wide range of partners, across Thurrock to deliver the priorities identified by those who live and work in the Borough – the Thurrock Community. The Community Involvement Board has a key role to play in ensuring that the community has been appropriately involved in developing the priorities and in ensuring that the vision is delivered by the partnership.
Generic Objectives:
- To make a significant contribution to the development, implementation and review of Thurrock's Community Strategy.
- To ensure that partner organisations involve the Community Involvement Board in developing the objectives of Shaping Thurrock and that the consultation/involvement strategies, with local people/communities have an impact on the Partners' mainstream operations.
- To advise partners and member organisations on issues that have been identified which will/could impact on policy development and implementation and are seen as important from a community perspective.
- To work in partnership to achieve maximum benefit from the mainstream and external funding sources available to support community involvement and development.
- To promote two-way communication between communities and the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and the active participation of local people.
- To ensure that the LSP has processes in place with which to understand the diverse community's needs.
- To monitor the effectiveness of the LSP's consultation and engagement processes and to assess whether or not they have achieved positive outcomes for local people.

Relationship to Partnership Board
The Community Involvement Partnership Board will be consulted by each of the other four groups to help them develop and set priorities and targets. The Chairs of the five groups are accountable to the LSP Board and will report on the activities and progress of the groups' work regularly.
The Community Involvement Board can elect three representatives to be members of the Local Strategic Partnership Board.
NB: Do we also want to nominate a representative to each of the other four groups reporting to the Board?
