Below you will find a summary of the training, individual training flyers, and a blank application form, all of which are downloadable. General Information regarding Thurrock LSCB training

All courses are free of charge to statutory agencies and the voluntary sector at present. From 1st April 2007 due to the high incidence of non-attendance there will be a charge of £50. per person, payable by the agency for non attendance or late cancellation. Please allow at least 3 working days Please notify the training co-ordinator preferably by email if you are unable to attend.

We do not allocate places on a first come first served basis. All training is multi agency and a mix of organisations is the priority. The number of places available will vary from course to course and venue to venue.

Refreshments and a light lunch are provided for training that is one day or more.

Certificates will be issued only if the whole course has been attended. It is expected that participants will attend for the whole of the course.

All courses will be held in Thurrock or close proximity, please contact the training co-ordinator if you require a map. Various venues are used for the training. All venues used have wheelchair access.

Confirmation of a place and joining instructions will be sent not later than 2 weeks before the start of the training. You will also be notified if you have not been allocated a place. Please do not attend if you have not received a letter allocating you a place.

Please contact the training co-ordinator if you have any special requirements to enable you to attend this training.

Your manager will be notified if you are allocated a place and do not attend. If you need to cancel a place that has been allocated to you, you must contact the training co-ordinator prior to the event.

Training is offered on 3 levels.

Key Outcomes

Introduction
  • Contribute and take whatever actions are needed to safeguard children
  • Recognise and respond to concerns about a child in need
  • Appreciate own role and that of others
  • Communicate and act appropriately within national and local guidance to safeguard children
  • Familiar with local arrangements, services and sources of advice for supporting families and safeguarding children
Foundation
  • Accomplish core tasks together to safeguard and promote children's welfare e.g. assessments, planning, core groups, conferences, decision making
  • Sound understanding of principles and processes for effective collaboration
  • Communicate and develop working relationships in the interests of children
  • Understand contribution made by others to safeguarding children and impact of own decisions and actions on others
Specialist
  • Co-work on complex tasks or particular areas of practice that have specific knowledge or skill requirements e.g. joint enquiries and investigations, investigative interviews, complex assessment.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships of mutual trust and respect
  • Understand legal and organisational frameworks, including levels of accountability of decision-making, in other agencies.
