Within the Community Safety Partnership is the Community and Availability group. This group deal with raising awareness of drugs in Thurrock and tackling the issue. The group has membership from Thurrock Police, Essex Police, Thurrock council (community safety and licensing). Primary Care Trust, Community Drug and Alcohol service (CDAS) and Open Access Substance Information Service for Adults (OASIS)

Key Objectives:

  • To deliver the Government's drug strategy at a local level
  • To contribute and support the objectives of Thurrock's Crime and Disorder Strategy
  • To reduce the harm caused to the community by the abuse of drugs
  • To stifle the availability of illicit drugs on our streets (primarily class A)

Priorities

  • To develop local initiatives against Class A drugs
  • To target and disrupt street dealing, reducing levels and availability of drugs in our communities in line with local assessments derived from the National Intelligence Model
  • To ensure by partnership working, the licensees of Thurrock do everything to provide drug free entertainment on their premises
  • Rehabilitate existing users through Drugs Intervention Programme (DIP): 'Out of crime and into treatment'

  • During sentences of imprisonment
  • Post release, on return into the community
  • Dealing with the causes of crime
